Grumpy The Biker

Who the Hell Is Grumpy The Biker?

A Vancouver Island Rider With a Permanently Unimpressed Face

Yes, some links are affiliate links. No, it doesn’t cost you extra. It just keeps the gas tank from crying.

I’m the legend known as Grumpy The Biker—or, as my wife likes to say, “a legend in his own mind.” I live on Vancouver Island, home to some of the best motorcycle roads in Canada and scenery so good it should fix my facial expression… but hasn’t yet. My walls are covered with photos of my kids, my bikes, and one very flattering shot of my wife in her riding gear. She’s the only person who gets wall space in that room, and she earns it.

My Riding Life: Three Decades, Too Many Miles, Zero Regrets

I ride because I always have. I bought my first bike at 18 behind my parents’ backs—a beat‑up Honda 125 that had already lived a harder life than I had. It was so small that when my buddy leaned back, we’d accidentally wheelie through downtown Trail. Since then, I’ve owned everything from Honda Hawks to Yamaha Maxims to the Harleys I ride today. Every one of them has a story attached to it, usually involving bad decisions and good roads.

Long‑Distance Motorcycle Trips Across Canada and the U.S.

I’ve done more long‑distance rides than most people do vacations:

  • Fruitvale to Tucson.
  • Multiple trips to Sturgis.
  • Fruitvale to Chicago.
  • Two months riding all over Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.
  • Knoxville to Daytona for Bike Week (yes, we slayed the Dragon).
  • Historic Route 66.
  • Las Vegas Bikefest—more than once.
  • Highway 1 and 101 along the California and Oregon coast.
  • The Grand Canyon.
  • And hundreds of rides across BC, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.

Experiences creates stories – Like a turkey baster story.

Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, one of us ran out of gas. The solution?

  • A turkey baster.
  • A water bottle.
  • And a level of stupidity that should’ve been filmed.

It worked, but it’s not something I recommend unless you enjoy the taste of gasoline and regret. Get a syphon hose instead.

Riding Vancouver Island: Coastal Roads, Mountain Passes, and Real Miles

These days, most of my riding happens on Vancouver Island—coastal roads, mountain passes, and back‑country stretches that feel like movie scenes. A lot of those miles are with BikerEye, who rides her own 2023 CVO Street Glide and doesn’t need me leading the way. We put on more miles than most people put on their cars, usually without making a big deal about it.

Why I Film My Rides

I shoot videos because the roads deserve it.

Not for fame.

Not for likes.

Just because the ride is worth capturing — and sometimes the footage proves I actually ride instead of just talking about it.

If You’re Here for Real Motorcycle Stories, You’re in the Right Place

So come back often. I’ve got stories—good ones, stupid ones, and a few I probably shouldn’t tell—and plenty of videos to go with them. If you like real roads, real rides, and a face that never matches the view, you’ll fit in just fine here.
